The Marangu Route, affectionately nicknamed the 'Coca-Cola Route', is the classic and most comfortable trail on Mount Kilimanjaro. It is the only route featuring comfortable wooden sleeping huts with beds and mattresses, avoiding the need for wilderness camping.

Detailed Day-by-Day Itinerary

Day 1

Marangu Gate (1,860m) to Mandara Hut (2,700m)

After breakfast in Moshi, drive to Marangu Gate for registration. Hike through dense tropical rainforest teeming with blue monkeys and eucalyptus trees. Overnight at Mandara Hut. (Hiking time: 4-5 hours)

Day 2

Mandara Hut (2,700m) to Horombo Hut (3,720m)

Ascend into the moorland zone with stunning views of Mawenzi and Kibo peaks. Marvel at giant groundsels and lobelias along the trail. Overnight at Horombo Hut. (Hiking time: 6-7 hours)

Day 3

Acclimatization Day at Horombo Hut (3,720m)

Crucial acclimatization hike towards Zebra Rocks (4,020m) for breathtaking panoramic vistas, then descend back to Horombo Hut for rest and energy replenishment.

Day 4

Horombo Hut (3,720m) to Kibo Hut (4,703m)

Cross the alpine desert of the 'Saddle' between Kibo and Mawenzi peaks. Arrive at Kibo Hut in the afternoon, prepare warm gear, have early dinner, and rest for the midnight summit bid.

Day 5

Summit Day: Kibo Hut to Uhuru Peak (5,895m) - Descend to Horombo Hut

Wake at 11:30 PM for hot tea and biscuits. Ascend steep scree to Gilman's Point (5,681m) at sunrise, then push along the crater rim to Uhuru Peak (5,895m), the highest point in Africa! Celebrate and descend to Horombo Hut for well-deserved celebration.

Day 6

Horombo Hut to Marangu Gate - Moshi Celebration

Descend through lush rainforest to Marangu Gate. Receive your official gold summit certificates, tip and sing celebratory songs with your porter team, and transfer to Moshi hotel.
